I love when the weather get cold and you are able to snuggle inside with a big, mug of hot chocolate, a long movie (i.e., Pride and Prejudice, 10th Kingdom, Star Wars, Frozen) and some super comfy cozy socks! Sock are great during the winter because they are fluffy and warm a long and homemade, and so many other wonderful things! ( Did I just gush over socks?) Yes, yes I did. and I am not ashamed of it! In fact I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to my love of wonderful winter socks. Come see.
See y’all later!
Yes this is real!! and I love it! Last year ya’ll may remember me mentioning that I would do a post on my homemade laundry detergent. Well I didn’t get around to it then, I have one for you now. To make this awesome money-saving cleaner you’ll need:
1 4lbs. box of borax $3.38
1 4lbs box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda $2.18
1 box of Arm & Hammer Laundry Soap $5.47
1 box of Oxyclean $7.52
1 bottle of Purex Scent Beads (optional) $4.76
2 bars of Zote Laundry Soap $
*Side note: I do not have photos of the Zote Bars because they took me forever to find again. I’m having to possible order them online. I do know they have worked though because I have already used this for a year. I will get a price when I finally find them again.
Mix all the ingredients together. Grate the Zoot bars, with an old cheese grater, into mixture. You can also use a grater that you only use for this purpose. I like to mix it in the container I use to store it because this cuts down on mess. But if you have a different sized container or prefer a different method please do so. Now, I got this idea from a wonderful blog called Being Creative to Keep my Sanity. I give all credit to her. now I used a few things differently and I was able to get a longer use out of my soap, but that is because I have just me and the Hubby and she has kiddos. Still a great blog to go check out if you have time.
Altogether it cost me about $25 for laundry detergent but, it has lasted me almost a year. I believe this is incredible!! and such a saver. Please try this out and tell me how much you loved it!
Talk to ya’ll later!
Update:So Darling Hubby found some Zote soap for me and he found it already grated! How awesome is that! They are about the same as a bar of the soap. So if you decided to use the pregrated vs the bar it’s two boxes for two bars.
So as ya’ll may have noticed. I’ve skipped a few weeks in my Love List series, I have been super sick and quite frankly when your sick anything that makes you feel better you love, soup, long boring movies you’ve seen hundreds of times, cough medicine and headache pills, soft blankets, fuzzy socks and cool fluffy pillows.
Now that I’m somewhat back to normal I will try to get back in the swing of things around here.
1. Playing scrabble with Hubby for date night and laughing at all the stupid words we made up.
2. Finding my long lost sweatshirt from middle school that I absolutely love more than any piece of clothing, other than my wedding dress.
3. Having a snowball fight in Texas! Come on how often does that happen. Also I think this is why I relapsed.
4. Making an awesome chili/ goulash meal from canned goods and random meat in the fridge. May do a post on my Mom’s delicious goulash.
5. Baking brownies with my darling Hubby and adding way more chocolate than called for.
This skirt just makes me smile so much. It’s ridiculously adorable!
Don’t these just look super delicious!! I want to try these very soon.
I have a feeling Spring it gonna start getting to me soon, cause I am longing to fill the house with flowers!!
So here are a few things that made me smile or I want to remember forever.
What made you smile this week?
This year has been full of it’s ups and downs like any other. And this still new blog has had it’s share. Care to review?
I welcomed you to join me in my adventure of writing a blog. Which as we’ve seen has been a mix of bad writing and okay. I am defiantly not the greatest. I’ve learned I need more pictures and more planning for the blog. We also explored how to remove wallpaper, that method really worked!! and how to grow garlic, which was not a very successful, my garlic did not have any results, but i have been researching this more and will get an update soon. I completed my menu board, which has been so helpful! I love using it, and have been adding more recipes to my collection.
We started February with a baby blanket that i made for a close friend of mine. I’ve got another one coming up for 2014 also. Then we had the SUPER BOWL!!! Which was pretty awesome, and there were many laughs. Then we had some food posts, that looking back make me pretty hungry. More posts regarding food, and how to brig home your food conveniently. Then I started a series for Thank You Note Day, which i have to say turned out pretty amazing. Definitely my first great accomplishment on this blog.
We continued with the thanks and giving in March. And I couldn’t help but self promote m Etsy shop Hannah’s Catchall Cottage, quite a bit in this month.
This month started spicy!! Homemade salsa was the highlight. Followed by an evening in with the girls. and Earth Day!
I tempted you with ideas, and have yet to bring any of them to life on here. But soon… I hope…
Was very small as far as the blog went, I only posted once. of corse it was about my favorite subject. FOOD!
Always one of my favorite months, with our anniversary. It was filled with surprises and new features. I introduced the Book of the Moment feature which I have loved. and has been a very nice outlet for my love of reading. Sadly i did not reach my Goodreads book challenge goal, but hopefully next year. I shared my joy of music. Then my amazing Anniversary week!!!!! I love anniversary week, with the gifts I gave and the ones I received! It was truly amazing! As the month was ending i was gearing up for some interesting events in August….
I had a booth at my first real craft fair. It was a great learning experience, and i took much away from it. I shared some tips i had picked up fro the Internet, Etsy teams, and experience at smaller fairs. More great books, and the start of football season. Sadly i lost in my Fantasy league but, i did get second place! then i set my goals for my new “year” still working on a few but, so far so good.
I wanted to start what would have been an awesome series, but as you read later on we moved again and plans changed.
*cricket* *cricket* uhhh… well…. yeah.
Was filled with a quick hello!
We started the month with a bit yummy breakfast, a great way to start the day too. And a lovely wedding gift idea.
Now here we are at the end of the year, with so many memories behind us, and so many plans ahead. I have more Books to be reviewed, and crocheted items to show. There may or may not be a giveaway in the works for the blogs 1 year anniversary in January. Along with a food series that i have been working on for some time. Also i have noticed that i tend to dwell on the negative, even though i know there is so much good in my life! so i will try to do a post once a week with some of my favorite things, whether that is something that made me smile or a Pinterest pin, or a post from Tumblr, or just a passing happy thought. I may put a limit of 10-15, haven’t figured out all the logistics on that one yet but, the first one will be up end of this week. Crazy to think only 1 more day of 2013 and then we bring on the New Year.
See ya’ll then!
Since I’ve started working again, and not being the stay at home wife I loved to be. I’ve had a lot of time in the car and that involves commutes and errands that normally I wouldn’t have that much of.
My worst enemy has become the breakfast taco. These wonderful and quick to pick up breakfasts are killing my trim tummy(not so trim now). Since I’ve noticed this tubby tummy forming I’ve decided to take action and fight the flab!!
I love the idea of staying healthy as long as I can and keeping a toned body for my darling hubby! So I’ve been experimenting with quick healthy breakfasts and even have a few drive-thru favorites that when your really cut for time can save you a few minutes.
Muffins with yogurt side.
Now this may sound bad, but I found the most delicious recipe that is super healthy, blueberry orange oatmeal muffins ( damn delicious.net/2012/05/21/muffin-Monday-blueberry-orange-oatmeal-muffins/ ). It has fiber, along with yummy fruits and when I make it I use low fat or fat free yogurt to make it less calories too. A friend of mine looked up the calorie content for the version I make and I believe she said it was less than 100 for one muffin. Not a bad choice.
Another yummy choice if you have a little extra time is an omelet. I love omelets, they are yummy and I can add whatever to them. You have literally have a different omelet everyday if you wanted too! They are so easy to make personal to what you like and love.
Now some of my faster drive-thru choices.
Yum!! Can I just say how much I love Starbucks. They are amazing every time I go in there it makes me happy. Having a bad day? Go to Starbucks. Need a pick me up? Go to Starbucks. Feeling crappe? Have a Starbucks frappe!!
The food there is so good too. And one of my favorite breakfasts is the classic oatmeal. Now I like to do mine maybe a little differently than most people. I mix in the brown sugar they provide immediately so that it kinda melts into the oatmeal while it finishes cooking. And I save the dried fruits for a snack later. Basically I get two meals in one!!
Yay! So this is my little bit of thoughts today, just a note, I am not a professional health advisor I just think these are healthy meals, more healthy than buttered up, lardy breakfast tacos. Which I still love but need to cut back on.these are not part of any special diet just happen to be part of mine.
Well I had mentioned before I wanted to get us more organized. I’m tired of coming home and there being junk everywhere. Every surface covered with stuff that doesn’t belong there. And general messiness.
I have complied a list, of rooms in the order I want to tackle them. Then have assigned myself a time line for each. Now overall I’m guessing it will probably take a year, since I want to tackle the whole house every nook and cranny.
1. Closet/Clothes – month and a half
2. Bathroom – month
3. Pantry – month and a half
4. Laundry – two weeks
5. “Office” – month and a half
6. Crafts – two weeks
7. Living Room – month
8. Q (our dog and his things) – two weeks
9. Bedroom – two months
10. Jewelry – two weeks
11. Storage room – month
Now some of these will probably combine actual rooms and some are just a category of items. But I figured it would be a good order for me and I could spread them out.
The time frames are just estimates too. Some may take longer depending on what I will need and our budget.
Will keep ya’ll posted!!!
Well tonight marked the first official Smith (names have been changed) girls night in! To start off with the theme! Mexican! And the salsa was a bust. To salty, as Darling Hubby said and vetoed the serving of said salsa to any living human being.
Also to make the evening more exciting, I had been on rough terms with my lovely(I sincerely mean lovely!) sister in law. Which made for much worry on my part. Would she come? Why hadn’t she let me know what she was bringing? How would she act?
All the while I am rushing around cleaning house to be spotless for my critical sister, and wonderful mother. Setting up tables, making food labels, and food.
Chips and guacamole-me
Sausage and cheese dip-mom
Enchilada casserole-sister in law
1 lbs of ground beef(can be mixed with turkey)
Cook meat and season with either a premixed taco seasoning or personal taste. Until browned.
In a muffin tin, place wrappers inside cups to form bowls. Place a small amount of meat, sprinkle with cheese. Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.
Thanks to Pinterest! These wonton tacos, as I call them, were a huge hit!!
Everyone had a blast. We talked and watched movies. And as always I worried way more than needed.
Before everyone showed up though I tried to burn down the house making homemade churros. The process was going fine until the pastry bag decided to bust and almost fall into the hot oil. Which of course had some frying already and started burning and setting off the fire alarms. All the while Darling Hubby is on the phone with people and I am making quite a racket! What a wonderful man he is!!
All in all everyone went home happy and stuffed and broke all of our diets! It was a wonderful evening!
